Somedaydream Makes Waves on OPM

One of the newest artists making a name in Philippine music industry is Rez Toledo, a singer-songwriter popularly known as Somedaydream. His single got into the top spot of RX 93.1's "Song of the Year" and "OPM Artist of the Year."  Yahoo Philippines even cited him as "Breakthrough Artists and Icon of the Year." His technopop style gives the youth a "fresh feel" of a popular style during the 1980s. Technopop is is a genre of popular music that first became prominent in the 1980s, in which the synthesizer is the dominant musical instrument. It was prefigured in the 1960s and early 1970s by the use of synthesizers in progressive rock, electronic art rock, disco (courtesy of Wikipedia) Somedaydream's breakthrough came from the hit jingle of a television commercial by Selecta Cornetto - "Hey Daydreamer".

Rez Toledo is a student in Ateneo University who started writing songs and recording in his own room. With the advent of digital recording, anyone can actual make musical arrangements out of the comfort of own computer, and Rez made it a good example. With his revival of technopop in the local scene, the OPM gets a breather from a different genre. Somedaydream captured many ears and hearts of the young Filipino crowd. His self-titled debut album "Somedaydream" features his hit singles "Hey Dreamdreamer" and "Delivery Boys."
