The all-Filipino developers focused on enriching the nearly-lost culture of FIlipino youth of playing the once so popular game. David added that their motivation was more than the money. It was more on reminding the Filipinos, both the old and young, of our games.
He said that kids nowadays are more into playing video consoles and computers, than appreciating the old Pinoy games. David also mentioned that the creation of SIPA, the game, is just a start of challenging Filipino developers to actively participate in the game development world.
"App Market and App Store is an even playground for developers around the world. It is just a great honor to be included in the hundreds of thousands of applications available there, and one of them is a Filipino game," said David.
THE GAME
SIPA is a simple game starred by a character name Butchukoy who tries to catch the Sipa and toss it back to the air.
The good thing about the game is that it promotes three things:
- Filipino culture - game Sipa
- Good values - Butchuchoy earns more score by picking up the trash, as part of the challenge, while playing Sipa
- Tourism - the background of the game are prominent Philippine places (eg. Rizal Park, Quiapo Church, Mt. Pulag, UP)
WRITER'S NOTE:
Personally, I feel that this game is a good start for Filipino game developers to participate in the industry, not just as an outsourcing company, but as an active, frontline game developers in the App World and App Market.
Though David admits that it's hard to develop a game and to compete against other popular franchises, but then again, being at par with Angry Birds in the selection of games in the App Market and App World makes a different ballgame.
Plus, this game can be a good conversational piece for anyone. Besides it's just an easy, yet fun game, with stories about the character.
Congratulations to DLSU-Graduate Studies, Marketing Communication Class for putting up this event and to Ms. Faith Salazar for the invitation.
