I’ve been given the privileged by the Association of Nursing Service Administration of the Philippines, Inc (ANSAP), a non government organization (NGO) to put up on stage the life of modern day nursing cornerstone, Florence Nightingale, entitled The Voyage of the Lass
The project is inspiring.
I’m inspired by how Florence had the courage to face a tough “calling” in her life.
But I’m more inspired by the people I mingled with always in this project. They are working registered nurses from different hospital.
I’m inspired because it’s really tough to be in their position. They are facing so much risk in their profession.
The way I see it, this kind of profession is more than just money – it’s more of a devotion. Just imagine how hard it is to serve people you don’t know. Taking care of them. Not to mention the diseases they are exposed to every moment they are in the hospitals.
I’m even more inspired to the nurses in the government hospitals. Since, the hospital virtually cannot object to the number of patients they are obliged to attend to and to the kinds of cases they handle.
Before, I had a “not-so-good” impression on some of the people who wanted to go to nursing. Since most of the “new blood” have a “wrong” notion in going into the profession just for the sake of earning “BIG BUCKS” abroad.
In a way, it’s not bad to earn money. However, they might be seeking something from a wrong point of view. Never has MONEY been a good motivator for anything.
Anyway, but, when I met the nurses I’m working with (both the directors of ANSAP and the artists), my heart goes to them, since most of them that I get to talk to, have really the passion inside of them to be nurses – and most of all – to serve people.
Although many may have the objective to go abroad, but I believe, there are still many who want to serve.
I wonder, what would the hospitals be like if not for these nurses.
If only our country can give high salary for these professionals (and for others as well), we wouldn’t have to see these devoted individuals go look out for greener pastures abroad.
We usually give credit to the doctors in the hospitals because of a successful operation. But it never cross the minds of many to give credit as well to the nurses who’s doing so much effort to take care of the patients.
God really has His way showing us things. I’m thankful to God that I got this project. I learned so many things from these people.
No wonder why my former officemate, and a bunch of his friends, sought after nurses to be their life partners. Now I understand them.
Because, most of these people know what “COMMITMENT” truly is.
Nurses (not all, hehehehehe), know what commitment truly is when they stepped into their profession (calling).
It wouldn’t be impossible if someday I would also fall for a nurse (but that’s another matter of course and a long shot though. hehehehe)
Again, it’s a privilege working with these kind of people.
